The Seed
When assessing the state of the contemporary church model, we recognized a growing need for more. Not something better; something different.
As Westerners, church attendance is usually the predominant measurement of one’s allegiance to Jesus. But for Jesus, the measurement of allegiance was loyal love for His Kingdom.
Jesus commanded his followers to listen, observe, learn, and practice His teachings as they made disciples. We desired to embody this approach by orienting our entire lives to Jesus and to one another (Eph 5:21).
So we planted a seed—a seed that began with discipleship and community, pledging our allegiance to His presence and to the continual transformation of His people.
The Sprout
In 2022, we began gathering together in a room to worship, pray, and read Scripture. Months later, as more gathered with us, the desire for deeper, genuine fellowship with Jesus and others was evident.
We weren’t (and still aren’t) against the contemporary church model; however, there was a groaning in the hearts of believers—a groaning for sacrificial love, time together in His presence, and to be a Body that represented Jesus instead of a brand.
As we have sprouted, more have been added to our community. Weekly, we meet for worship, fellowship, and a teaching. Bi-weekly, we meet for Bible study. And monthly, we meet for a community meal.
The Shade
Our aim isn’t to re-invent church but rather to re-define church. Only He knows where we are headed, but we believe the future is ancient.
We believe the key to following Jesus faithfully is not about addition but subtraction. It is less about where and when we meet, and more about who and what we become as Yahweh’s covenant people.
Our longterm goal is to become shade for those who seek refuge and rest, a canopy for maturation and human flourishing, and good ground for Yahweh to dwell with us (Gen. 3:8).
